Getting to Costa Tranquila is easily done. Alaska Airlines, Delta and
Mexicana have many flights into the town of Loreto. Costa Tranquila is
approximately 115 miles north of Loreto. You can rent a car at the airport
and drive the scenic Highway 1 to San Bruno. These pictures are just a few
on the drive up

If you prefer to drive your own vehicle, you can take Highway 1 south from
the US border at San Diego. It is approximately 590 miles to the town of San
Bruno. Driving down hwy 1 you will enjoy some of the most beautiful desert
scenery you will ever experience. Huge cactus numbering in the thousands can
be seen amongst the beautiful rock formations as you get close to Catavina.
We prefer to make the trip in a leisure drive, stopping in San Quentin or
Catavina for the evening and resuming the next morning.
It is not advisable to drive in Baja at night due to the numerous animals
and livestock that gravitate to the roads at night.
The Mexican military have 5 checkpoints along the hwy 1. They are friendly
and are there for your safety. You may have to stop and let them inspect
your vehicle but they are courteous and try to get you on your way quickly.
In San Quintin, there is the Old Mill Motel and Don Eddies Motel that are
favorites with the old time Baja enthusiast.
In Catavina, the Hotel La Pinta
is always a good choice as they have a/c in the rooms and a nice restaurant.
You can contact us and we will give you all the information you will need to
make the trip comfortably and enjoyable.
